Pet Sitting vs Boarding, which is right for you and your pets?

 Pet sitting vs. Boarding...

which is right for you and your pets?

You’ve booked your vacation and reserved your flight, all that’s left is to decide what to do for your fur babies. Should you board them or hire a pet sitting service and let them stay at home? Which is right for you and your pets? Let’s go through the details so you can make the best decision for your family.

Benefits of Pet Sitting

● Less anxiety, your pets are safe and sound in their home
● You can find out how your pets are doing through daily texts and pictures
● Medications or a special diet can continue
● Your pets are given one-on-one loving attention several times per day
● In addition to play time, your dogs can also be walked
● You don’t have to worry about them catching a virus or fleas from other pets
● Save time by not having to drop off and pick up your pets on the way out of town
● You get a double benefit of both pet sitting and house sitting (Trash cans need to be taken out? Want porch packages to be taken in? It’s all part of the service!)
● Your dogs and cats get to know their one to two pet sitters instead of ten or more at a kennel, and they get to meet their pet sitter before your vacation
● Pet sitting is considered better not just for dogs but for cats too

Benefits of Boarding

● Your dog can make new friends
● If you have one just one pet, the costs are usually lower
● Some facilities follow a structured environment with multiple opportunities for play
● That cute new pillow you just put on your couch will still be there when you get back

Things to Consider

● Your pet’s personality: Is your dog already a little anxious with new situations or others? What type of setting would your pet be more comfortable in?
● Cost: Boarding can cost less with one pet, but pet sitting costs less if you have 2 or more pets
● Food: The more stressful the environment, the less your pet typically eats
● Handlers: There are many people handling your dogs at a boarding facility, but only 1 to 2 faces with pet sitting
● Bath: At the end of a boarding stay, your dogs are dirty and baths usually cost extra
● Training: Pet sitters have more training with pet behavior than boarding center employees
● Behavior of other animals: Your pet can be picked on by an Alpha establishing dominance in a kennel environment. This is common in packs of animals, and can even involve in a small scuffle that may injure your dog
● Stress: There is usually less stress at home than in a new environment. Boarding centers are loud, for
example, so your pets might not sleep as well
● The worry of one: If you hire an individual pet sitter, something can happen to her and then what
happens to your pets? If you want the best of both worlds, hire a pet sitting service like Texas Ruff
House. They typically have two sitters who take turns visiting your house three times per day while
you’re gone, and each sitter is in constant communication with management

What are the benefits to YOU?

When you want to visit friends or family or just sip a Mai Tai on a balmy beach, it’s important to remember that you should be able to leave and enjoy yourself, which you can’t do without peace of mind. Carla Tittle created Texas Ruff House because she believes that pets are safest, more comfortable and stay healthier in their own home. Not all services are created equal, so think about what will make your pet happiest and give you the freedom to enjoy your time away.
Once you do, the choice will be easy. ~ Shannon Black
